Simba striker Jonathan Sowah’s consistent scoring form has convinced football pundits that he is the right man to strengthen the team’s attack and provide serious competition for the club’s other top forwards.
On October 9, 2025, at the Major General Isamuhyo Stadium, Simba defeated Al Hilal of Sudan 2–1 in a friendly match, with goals from Sowah and Jean Charles Ahoua.
Sowah’s goal drew attention from former players who praised the Ghanaian forward, who scored 13 goals in the 2024–2025 Tanzania Premier League season while playing for Singida Black Stars — a club he joined in January 2025 during the mid-season transfer window.
Former Simba, Yanga, and Taifa Stars player Zamoyoni Mogella said Sowah’s arrival at Msimbazi brings healthy competition and strengthens the attacking department.
“That will motivate Ahoua — last season’s top scorer with 16 goals and nine assists — to push himself harder, knowing there’s another strong contender in the squad. The fact that both scored in the friendly match against Al Hilal shows the growing competitive spirit between them,” said Mogella, adding: “Although it’s still early, new General Manager Dimitar Pentev seems to favor attacking football as a team philosophy. If he’s given time, I believe great things are coming for the club.”
Another former Simba player, Emmanuel Gabriel, noted: “That friendly match helped Pentev continue assessing his players alongside Seleman Matola, especially in identifying areas to work on ahead of the CAF Champions League qualifier against Nsingizini Hotspurs.”
“The coach starts shaping his squad through training and friendly games. Sowah’s goal-scoring momentum — having already scored once in the league — shows he’ll be a big asset for Simba and also provide Ahoua with healthy competition to maintain his previous form.”
Sowah, who is competing for a starting spot in the attack alongside Seleman Mwalimu and Steven Mukwala, has scored one league goal against Fountain Gate, starting in two of Simba’s five matches. Mwalimu, who has started once, also has one goal — against Namungo — while Mukwala is yet to score after starting twice in five appearances.
