After losing the Women’s Premier League (WPL) title last season to JKT Queens, Simba Queens’ management were left with headaches and immediately drew up plans to reclaim their throne.
The club is determined to restore the glory that saw them dominate the 2022–2023 and 2023–2024 seasons by winning back-to-back titles. The first step was to release players deemed surplus to requirements and bring in reinforcements from different leagues to strengthen the Msimbazi women’s squad.
In total, Simba Queens parted ways with 13 players and have already unveiled 11 new signings to fill the gaps, with the squad now set to be guided by head coach Elieneza Nicolaus.
1. Cynthia Musungu
The Kenyan forward is no stranger to Tanzanian football, having featured for Fountain Gate Princess, before moving to Besiktas (Turkey). Known for her pace, strength, decision-making, and deadly finishing, Musungu is expected to be a major asset.
2. Ruth Aturo
The Ugandan goalkeeper joins from Tausi FC and replaces Kenyan shot-stopper Carolyne Rufaa. She brings vast international experience, having played in Finland, Saudi Arabia, and Kenya. Aturo is also Uganda’s first-choice goalkeeper with several individual accolades to her name.
3. Zawadi Usanase
The Rwandan striker arrives from AS Kigali and is expected to compete directly with departing Kenyan striker Jentrix Shikangwa. Usanase is quick, powerful, and clinical in front of goal.
4. Neema Mtunzi
A promising young defender signed from Mount Hanang, she’s strong in aerial duels and set-pieces. Though inexperienced, she’s seen as a long-term prospect for both Simba and the national team.
5. Odoma Amarachi
The Nigerian international midfielder arrives from Edo Queens. Versatile and capable of playing as a defensive midfielder or full-back, she is considered the replacement for Ritticia Nabbosa.
6. Elizabeth Nashon
Signed from Ceasiaa Queens, Elizabeth is a versatile midfielder who can also play in defense. She is quick, smart on the ball, and adds depth to Simba’s midfield options.
7. Nandede Zainah
The Ugandan winger, formerly with Kampala Queens, is strong, fast, and creative. She replaces veteran Asha Djafar and adds pace and flair to Simba’s wings.
8. Elizabeth Joseph
A young versatile midfielder and defender signed from Alliance Girls, Elizabeth is seen as one of the rising stars expected to bolster Simba’s engine room.
9. Zanga Brice
The Cameroonian centre-back becomes Simba’s first signing from her country. Left-footed and strong in the air, she is expected to partner Ester Mayala in central defense after captain Violeth Nickolaus departed for Egypt.
10. Zuhura Waziri
The young goalkeeper caught Simba’s eye while playing for Ceasiaa. She is highly rated for her ability to initiate attacks from the back and is expected to grow with experience in the WPL.
11. Asha Omary
Formerly with Yanga Princess, she struggled for minutes but impressed with the national team, Twiga Stars. She can play as a full-back or winger on either side and brings speed and defensive solidity.
12. Fasila Adhiambo
The 20-year-old Kenyan midfielder scored 7 goals and made 17 assists last season. Despite family resistance to her move, Simba secured her services to strengthen their attacking midfield options.
