Simba SC’s prolific Ugandan striker, Steven Mukwala, is likely to remain at Msimbazi despite Libyan club Al Ittihad placing a lucrative offer on the table to secure his signature, it has been revealed.
According to reports, Al Ittihad submitted a bid of approximately USD 1 million (equivalent to over TZS 2.5 billion) to sign the striker, who scored 13 league goals for Simba last season.
However, although Simba’s management was ready to sell Mukwala, head coach Fadlu Davids insisted that the club must first secure his replacement before approving the deal.
But as of 11:59 p.m. last night, just moments before the transfer window closed, there was no news of a new signing, despite Simba being linked with Vipers FC attacking midfielder Allan Okello.
It should be remembered that Simba has already sold striker Lionel Ateba, leaving the squad with only three key forwards: Jonathan Sowah, Selemani Mwalimu, and Steven Mukwala himself.
If Mukwala departs, Simba will be forced to rely heavily on Sowah and Mwalimu in attack, at a time when the team faces multiple competitions in the coming season.
Although the transfer window in Libya remains open, Simba will no longer be able to register a replacement as the domestic window has already closed.
