Yesterday, Simba unveiled its two new signings from JKT Tanzania: goalkeeper Yacoub Suleiman and central defender Wilson Nangu.
This recruitment was more strategic, focusing on strengthening the goalkeeping department and the central defense.
In this transfer window, Simba parted ways with two goalkeepers, Aishi Manula and Ali Salim. The signing of Yacoub was aimed at filling that gap, as Simba only had two goalkeepers left — Moussa Camara and Hussein Abel.
Moreover, Yacoub is currently regarded as the best domestic goalkeeper, serving as Tanzania’s number one for the national team, Taifa Stars.
Recently, he was instrumental for Tanzania during the CHAN tournament held in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, where the Stars were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Yacoub is expected to provide stiff competition for Camara who, despite his quality, was criticized last season for certain errors that cost Simba dearly.
The arrival of a top-class goalkeeper like Yacoub will serve as a reminder to Camara that his position is no longer guaranteed.
In defense, Nangu has been added after performing impressively at JKT Tanzania, which also earned him a call-up to the Taifa Stars squad for CHAN.
Nangu joins as a replacement for Hussein Kazi, who was released by Simba following the expiration of his contract.
He is expected to challenge other defenders in that department, including Abdulrazak Hamza, Carabou Chamou, and Rushine De Reuck, who also joined during this transfer window from Mamelodi Sundowns.
