After completing their pre-season camp in Egypt, Simba SC returned to Dar es Salaam last Friday with fresh hopes for the upcoming campaign.
Head Coach Fadlu Davids granted his players three days of rest before resuming training today at Mo Simba Arena, as the team prepares for two key dates: Simba Day (September 10) and the Community Shield clash against rivals Yanga SC (September 16).
Every new season comes with expectations, but this one is different for Fadlu. Simba have made significant reinforcements in the transfer window, bringing in new stars to strengthen the squad. Still, heavy pressure remains on the technical bench.
Fans have not forgotten that their club has gone four consecutive seasons without winning a domestic league title—a record deemed unacceptable for a club of Simba’s stature.
On top of that, there’s the challenge of ending their poor run against Yanga SC. Simba have lost five consecutive matches against their traditional rivals, a streak that has hurt the club’s pride and broken the hearts of its fans.
The Community Shield will be Fadlu’s first chance to break that streak. Another defeat could trigger immense pressure from fans, management, and stakeholders.
Simba Day will be the first test of the squad’s strength, but the true measure will be the match against Yanga. A victory there would signal the beginning of a new journey to restore the pride of the Msimbazi Reds.
After the Community Shield, Simba will turn their focus to the CAF Champions League, where on September 21 they face Botswana’s Gaborone United in the preliminary round.
