The Tanzania national team, Taifa Stars, were eliminated from the 2024 CHAN tournament at the quarterfinal stage after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to two-time champions Morocco.
The result was a bitter disappointment for many Tanzanians, especially since the nation hosted the tournament and fans had high hopes of seeing the team progress further—possibly even reaching the final.
Following the elimination, Stars players have now been released to rejoin their clubs in preparation for the new season. However, some could still be recalled to the squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifier against Niger on September 9.
Simba SC stars Shomari Kapombe, Yusuph Kagoma, and Abdulrazack Hamza were part of the CHAN squad. Meanwhile, transfer rumors continue to link Ahmed Pipino, Yakoub Suleiman, and Wilson Nangu with a move to the Msimbazi giants.
According to reports, these players have been granted short breaks before linking up with Simba once the squad returns to Dar es Salaam. The team is expected to conclude its pre-season camp in Cairo on August 28 and then resume preparations at home, with two more weeks of training leading up to the highly anticipated Simba Day festival.
