Simba’s squad continues its training in Cairo, Egypt, but reports indicate that since two days ago the club’s bosses have been working on final calculations to bring in another new striker to strengthen the team.
It is claimed that the Simba bosses were impressed by coach Fadlu Davids, who requested an additional goal scorer. Billionaire Mohammed Dewji “MO” immediately stepped in to ensure the deal is done before the transfer window closes.
The star who has prompted Mo Dewji to flex muscles with the Arabs is Tanzanian forward Seleman Mwalimu “Gomez,” currently playing for Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, whom Simba wants to bring back home. Mwalimu left Tanzania after scoring six goals in the Premier League, despite limited game time due to injuries while at Fountain Gate.
Reports say coach Fadlu is still dissatisfied with the team’s attacking power, while also frustrated at missing out on his top midfield target, Feisal Salum “Fei Toto,” who chose to remain at Azam FC.
Just one call from Fadlu to MO pushed the billionaire into action, making a move on Wydad Casablanca, demanding Mwalimu — either through a permanent deal, which Wydad rejected, or a loan, which the Moroccans seemed ready to accept as of yesterday.
The loan option comes with two conditions, both costly, but MO has already agreed to them. The first requires Simba to pay a loan fee of $100,000 (about TSh 260 million) immediately to Wydad. The second is that Simba must cover Mwalimu’s entire salary, with Wydad not contributing anything. MO reportedly accepted both terms.
Mwalimu’s potential arrival could force striker Leonel Ateba out of Simba’s squad, as the club must reduce its foreign players to meet the required limit of 12.
Simba had hoped to make Mwalimu the marquee signing of the season after failing to land Fei Toto, who was expected to drive shirt sales during Simba Day celebrations.
“We wanted to keep it a secret, to unveil him as a surprise Gomez signing, but the process forced his former club to be informed, and that’s when the secret leaked,” said a Simba official.
Before being sold to Wydad, Mwalimu played on loan at Fountain Gate from Singida Black Stars, the club that eventually sold him to the Moroccans. He became the first Tanzanian to feature in the FIFA Club World Cup finals in 2025, held in the USA.
He was a feared striker, leading the scoring charts before leaving, with six goals, three assists, and seven awards — six Man of the Match titles and one Player of the Month honor.
