Simba SC right-back Shomari Kapombe has signed a new two-year contract to continue serving the Msimbazi Reds.
According to reports from within the club, contract renewal talks were completed before the end of last season, with both parties agreeing that official signing would take place after the season concluded.
However, the process was temporarily delayed when Kapombe joined Tanzania’s national team, Taifa Stars, which had been in camp in Egypt preparing for the 2024 CHAN tournament.
Stars returned home recently, and soon after landing, Simba officials finalized discussions with Kapombe and completed the contract signing.
In addition to the contract extension, Kapombe is expected to be named Simba’s new captain following the departure of Mohammed Hussein ‘Zimbwe Jr’, who had initially agreed to renew his deal but later changed his mind after reportedly being approached by another club.
Simba management expedited Kapombe’s renewal to avoid a repeat of Zimbwe Jr’s situation and now trust that Kapombe will bring stability and leadership to the squad ahead of the new season.
Kapombe remains one of the most experienced players in Simba’s squad, having spent nine years at the club and contributing to numerous domestic titles and strong performances in international competitions.
