Simba SC goalkeeper Ayoub Lakred is on the verge of returning to his home country, Morocco, after his contract with the Msimbazi Reds officially came to an end, with no signs of renewal in sight.
According to reports from within the club, there have been no discussions between Simba and Lakred regarding a new contract. This indicates that the goalkeeper's time with the Tanzanian club is nearing its conclusion.
Lakred was Simba’s first-choice goalkeeper two seasons ago, but things changed abruptly when he sustained an injury during pre-season preparations in Egypt ahead of the recently concluded campaign.
The injury kept him sidelined for a long time, prompting Simba to sign Guinea international goalkeeper Moussa Camara, who ended the 2024/25 season with 19 clean sheets—a remarkable record for the season.
"Lakred is a good goalkeeper; the challenge was the injury he suffered. Simba had major international commitments ahead, which is why Camara was signed, especially with Aishi Manula also injured," said a source within the club.
Throughout the period Lakred was recovering from his injury, the club continued to honor his contract by paying his salary, even though he did not feature at all in the entire 2024/25 season.
Currently, reports from Morocco suggest that Lakred is closely linked with FUS Rabat, a club that is reportedly offering him a two-year contract.
Meanwhile, Simba is undergoing a significant squad overhaul after finishing the season without major success. The club’s management has made it clear that some players will be released as part of a rebuilding strategy aimed at reclaiming domestic glory and achieving international success.
"Simba had the intention to retain Lakred, but due to the upcoming changes, the club is forced to restructure the squad in full preparation for the next season," the source added.
