The season has ended, leaving heartbreak for Simba SC fans who had high hopes of their team winning trophies this year. It's hard to believe that what was shaping up to be Simba’s best season fell apart right at the end.
As of May 25, before the CAF Confederation Cup final, Simba were in contention for three major titles.
A draw against Berkane in Zanzibar saw Simba miss out on the Confederation Cup title after losing 3-1 on aggregate.
By May 30, Simba were left chasing only the Premier League title after being knocked out of the CRDB Cup in the semifinals by Singida BS, in a match whose 3-1 result shocked many.
The Premier League title also slipped away into the hands of Yanga after Simba lost the decisive final match at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium against their arch-rivals.
This season’s events should serve as a wake-up call for Simba’s leadership to ensure they put solid strategies in place to win titles in the upcoming season.
One could say that after a season full of effort, Simba lost their focus at the most crucial moment, failing to deliver results in key matches.
In the league, there were moments when Simba topped the table ahead of Yanga, but results from matches against teams like Fountain Gate and Azam FC may have cost them the championship.
Losing both league matches against Yanga is also unacceptable—this is a challenge the Simba leadership must address quickly before fans and members lose patience and demand resignations.
In the just-concluded season, Simba only lost two matches—and both were against Yanga. Even in the previous season, the only two league losses Simba suffered were also to Yanga.
Yanga claimed the league title with a four-point margin over Simba, meaning that if Simba had not lost the two matches against Yanga, they would have won the championship.
Now the leadership must come up with a plan to end this inferiority against Yanga, because it's clear that in order to reclaim the championship, the first step is to ensure Simba does not lose to Yanga.
