The Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) has appointed two officials to act in the roles of Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer, following the departure of their predecessors on June 13, 2025, under different circumstances.
Azam FC Chairman, Nassor Idrissa, popularly known as 'Father', has taken over as Acting Chairperson of the TPLB. This follows the resignation of Steven Mnguto from the position.
On the other hand, the role of Acting CEO is now held by Ibrahim Mwayela, who previously served as TPLB’s Finance Manager. The CEO position became vacant after Almas Kasongo was suspended by the President of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Wallace Karia, for undisclosed reasons.
A statement issued by TPLB to clubs confirmed these changes:
“The Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) hereby informs you that the Vice Chairperson of the TPLB, Nassor Idrissa, is now serving as Acting Chairperson of the Board in accordance with Article 33:5 of the TPLB Governance Regulations.”
“Nassor Idrissa, who is also the Chairman of Azam FC, is assuming this role following the resignation of former Chairperson Steven Mnguto late last week.”
“In another development, the TPLB Finance Manager, CPA Ibrahim Mwayela, has been appointed to act as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) following the suspension of Almas Kasongo late last week. The Board looks forward to your club’s full cooperation with these leaders,” the letter stated.
