Simba SC winger, Joshua Mutale, seems to have opened a new chapter in his football journey with the Msimbazi Reds.
After a difficult period filled with injuries and uncertainty about his future, Mutale has now demonstrated that he still holds great value for the team and could become a key pillar in its future successes.
At the start of this season, Mutale was plagued by recurring injuries that denied him the chance to showcase his abilities. This situation led fans and even some stakeholders of the club to question whether he was truly the right choice for Simba’s squad. Many felt it was only a matter of time before he would be shown the door.
But the Zambian winger did not give up. He worked hard and has finally started to show his quality, to the extent of "turning the tables" and regaining the trust of Simba fans.
In the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final against RS Berkane, held on May 25 in Zanzibar, Mutale scored Simba’s only goal in the 1-1 draw. Despite the result, the match was his stage to shine—he played 70 minutes at a high level and gave the opposing defenders a tough time.
RS Berkane coach, Moine Chaabani, named Mutale as the player who gave them the hardest time during the match, which ultimately secured Berkane the CAF Confederation Cup title.
Currently, Simba's head coach, Fadlu Davids, has begun to give Mutale starting spots in key matches, with Kibu Denis ‘Mkandaji’ seemingly losing that role.
Mutale’s recent form has also opened doors for him in the Zambian national team. He has been selected to represent his country in the COSAFA tournament taking place in South Africa.
Joshua Mutale is a true example of a player who refused to give up. He has changed the perceptions of fans, the technical bench, and now even his nation recognizes him.
