Simba SC of Tanzania has officially entered the race to sign attacking midfielder Agee Basiala from the Democratic Republic of Congo, who currently plays for AS Maniema Union.
Reports indicate that the Msimbazi Reds are looking to strengthen their attacking midfield by bringing in Basiala, who can also operate as a winger.
Simba aims to boost its attacking midfield, where Jean Charles Ahour has so far been the key figure, leading the NBC Premier League scoring chart with 15 goals to date.
According to sources within the Simba club, official talks with Maniema Union have already begun. The Congolese club has set a price tag of $150,000 for the player, equivalent to more than 390 million Tanzanian shillings.
Maniema Union’s Chief Executive Officer, Guy Kapya Kilongozi, confirmed the reports, stating:
"A boss from Simba contacted us; he wants Agee (Basiala). We have given them our financial terms for the transfer to happen. Everyone knows Agee is a top midfielder and now mature enough to play anywhere. Here at Maniema, he is still a homegrown player, and we value him, but if a good offer comes, we’ll consider it."
Kilongozi also added that Maniema has a history of selling players to Tanzanian clubs, so they would not object to releasing Basiala to Simba if the two teams reach an agreement.
If the deal goes through, Basiala could become a valuable addition to Simba's squad, which is keen on reclaiming its dominance in domestic and international football.
