Simba head coach Fadlu Davids has stated that the fate of the Msimbazi Reds winning this season’s Premier League title is in their own hands, as they only need a win against archrivals Yanga to place themselves in a strong position.
On June 15, Yanga and Simba will face off in the second-round clash, with Simba going into the match remembering their 1-0 defeat to Yanga in the first leg.
Fadlu emphasized that the only result Simba is targeting in this match is a win, and they will fight to ensure they achieve it.
The South African coach made it clear that this time, Simba will not be a stepping stone for another team to claim the title in front of them.
"We’re back in training, though we’re missing a few players who are away on national team duty, but I believe we’ll have some of them back soon,"
"I know our players who are with the Tanzania national team will return after their friendly match against South Africa being played this Friday (today)."
"Let me say this — this is the match that carries our destiny in the title race this season. We don’t want to be the bridge for another team to win the league, so our mission is clear: we must win the match against Yanga," said Fadlu.
Simba currently sits in second place on the league table with 72 points after 27 matches, just one point behind their rivals Yanga who top the standings.
If Simba wins against Yanga, they will reach 75 points and move to the top of the league. It’s clear that Simba would then have a relatively easy task in their final two matches against KenGold and Kagera Sugar, both of whom have already been relegated.
