After concluding their CAF competition duties, the Simba squad today returns to the hunt for the NBC Premier League title with a rescheduled match against Singida Black Stars, set to be played at the KMC Complex stadium.
The "Lions" (Simba) go into this match with one goal: to secure all three points and close the gap on their rivals Yanga in the race for this season's NBC Premier League title.
Currently in second place on the league table with 69 points, a win would see Simba reach 72 points, while their arch-rivals Yanga have 73 points.
It should be noted that Yanga and Simba have yet to complete their second-round fixture, which is scheduled to be played on June 15 after the match was postponed from March 8.
Simba’s Assistant Coach, Selemani Matola, has emphasized that there is no room for mistakes in the match against Singida BS, as they need nothing less than three points.
Matola noted that the players understand the importance of the match, as anything other than a win could complicate their plans of winning the league this season.
Matches against Singida BS have never been easy for Simba — the sunflower farmers (Singida BS) may lose to any other team, but when they face Simba, they play differently.
However, Simba's quality often determines the outcome of these matches. Despite Singida BS’s resilience, they have never defeated Simba, even back when they were known as Singida United.
The only challenge Simba might face today is fatigue, as the team recently played a tough CAF Confederation Cup final against RS Berkane in Zanzibar just three days ago.
Simba’s Media and Communications Manager, Ahmed Ali, admitted that the team hasn't had enough time to prepare for the match, but they are ready to fight and ensure victory.
Ahmed has called on Simba fans to come out in large numbers to the KMC Complex stadium to support their team in the match.
After this game, the two teams will head to Manyara to face off again in the CRDB Cup semi-final match scheduled for May 31 at Tanzanite Kwaraa stadium.
