Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has expressed hope and strong belief in his squad despite missing out on the CAF Confederation Cup title after a 1-1 draw against RS Berkane in the final held at the New Amaan Complex Stadium in Zanzibar.
Speaking after the match, Fadlu admitted that the result was painful but made it clear that his players have shown significant mental and tactical growth – a sign of positive progress within the team.
“We faced very tough conditions before and during this match, but the players showed great courage. Even though we didn’t win the cup, we’ve matured tactically and psychologically,” said Davids.
The South African coach did not shy away from pointing out how refereeing decisions affected the game, citing numerous fouls awarded easily to RS Berkane and a series of questionable calls that denied Simba the chance to play freely.
“The team maintained high discipline despite the intense pressure. That is something to be proud of. This is a step forward for the club,” he added.
Fadlu emphasized that Simba SC has gained important lessons from the final, which will help them become stronger in future international competitions. He also used the opportunity to call for greater support from the management and fans, especially in preparing for high-level matches – from technical readiness to fair home-ground conditions.
“We need better competitive preparation for matches at this level. Fair conditions for both teams are also very important,” he stressed.
For now, Simba SC shifts its focus to the Tanzanian Premier League campaign and the FA Cup semi-final. Their aim is to end the season with domestic success before starting early preparations for the upcoming CAF competitions, with a burning desire to return to the final and seek revenge, whether against RS Berkane or any other opponent.
For Simba fans, Fadlu’s message is clear: this is a new beginning, not the end of the dream.
