Simba has set a record of becoming the first Tanzanian team to reach the finals of CAF competitions multiple times after qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup final after drawing away to Stellenbosch in South Africa
By reaching this stage, Simba is sure to earn significant funds from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). If they win the tournament, Simba will earn $2 million (Sh5.4 billion) of which 10 percent of the money will go to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) according to the procedure.
If they finish in second place, Simba will earn $1 million which is equivalent to 2.7 billion Tanzanian shillings and the procedure is the same for TFF to get 10 percent.
Simba has advanced to the final stage after a 1-0 home win in the first match played on Sunday, April 20 this year.
This is the second time that Simba has eliminated a team from South Africa in an African club competition, the first time being in 2003 when they eliminated Santos of South Africa in the preliminary stages of the African Champions League.
By reaching the final, Simba sets a record as the Tanzanian team that has reached that stage the most times in an African club competition. This is the second time Simba has reached the final stage of a competition under the Confederation of African Football (CAF) where the first time was in 1993 when they reached the final stage of the CAF Cup.
