The Simba SC disciplined performance against Al Masry in the two quarter-final matches of the CAF Confederation Cup has spared them from the CAF trap that could eliminate them from the final if they draw Stellenbosch FC of South Africa.
In the two matches against Al Masry, the first played in Port Said, Egypt, Simba were defeated 2-0, but overturned the result with a 2-0 home win at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Dar es Salaam before winning 4-1 on penalties and qualifying for the semi-finals.
The only player from the team to be shown a yellow card in the quarter-final stage was central defender, Chamou Karaboue, in the first away game.
Simba, who are currently without the services of their main defender Che Fondoh Malone, who suffered an injury a few weeks ago, do not stand a chance of losing another first-team player to a three-card penalty. This situation puts Karaboue under pressure to avoid a yellow card for the final.
Apart from Karaboue, other Simba stars who were on the verge of getting a yellow card in the quarter-final matches, namely Moussa Camara, Kibu Denis, Yusuph Kagoma, Leonel Ateba, Elie Mpanzu and Che Fondoh Malone, played with great composure, which shows how Fadlu's technical bench has placed emphasis on playing discipline.
