Initially the competition, which the initial proposal is to involve eight teams, starts in October was planned to be called Super League but now it will be known as African Football League
"Our European friends advised us not to use the 'Super League' due to the bad relationship with theirs which failed recently," he said
Motsepe has explained that the tournament will involve only eight teams, including the teams that qualified for the semi-finals of the African Champions League 2023 Ahly of Egypt, Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, Esperance of Tunisia, and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa
The others are TP Mazembe of DR Congo, Enyimba of Nigeria, Simba of Tanzania and Petro Atletico of Angola
"We have decided to change the name of the Super League to the African Football League," Motsepe said in an interview with Qattar's beIN Sport television
"The African Football League will start in October as planned, it will be the best league due to the size of the prize," said Motsepe and added that more details of the tournament will be explained soon in Ivory Coast p>
The champion of the championship will be given Bill 28. The clubs will come from the three regions of Africa which are North, Central/West, South/East
