The Kilimanjaro Region Police Force is holding 11 suspects, including businessmen from Moshi Municipality, in the region for selling and distributing fake Simba team jerseys.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, the Acting Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander, Yahaya Mdogo, said they had seized a total of 446 jerseys worth more than 15.6 million shillings.
"The Kilimanjaro Regional Police Force received confidential information about the presence of traders, especially Moshi Municipality, selling fake football jerseys from the Simba Football Team, counterfeit jerseys made by the Vunjabei company," the Commander said
In a preliminary investigation in collaboration with the Marketing Director of Vunja Bei, it was discovered that the jerseys were fake as they were of poor quality and were different from those made by the Vunjabei company which was awarded a tender to manufacture and distribute Simba jerseys
Commander Mdogo said they were still investigating and legal action would be taken against the suspects
